A peek inside the SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film Exhibition for André Leon Talley

A legacy to remember.
André Leon Tally was an American fashion icon, journalist, stylist, author, and creative director who paved the way for many others. By writing his own signature in fashion, he left behind wonderful memories, fabulous style, and a story to pass on to generations to come.
His career began while working as an apprentice at The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute under the mentorship of Dianna Vreeland. From there, André grew into journalism, working for magazines like Interview Magazine and Vogue Magazine. During his time, he collaborated with stars like Mariah Carey, Dapper Dan, Karl Langarfield, and many more industry professionals.

The most important thing he left behind was his pen. He wrote to elevate, decode, and celebrate the power of each style of clothing from the fabrics, textures, and stitches. Insights into his legacy can be read in The Chiffon Trenches: A Memoir, A.L.T 365+, and André Leon Tally: Style is Forever.
"I'd like to be remembered as someone who made a difference in the lives of young people - that I nurtured someone and taught them to pursue their dreams and their careers, to leave a legacy. " - ALT
The André Leon Tally Exhibition is now on view until March 1, 2026.
